“Science fiction questioned!” is the motto for an exciting and educational evening, hosted by the Zeiss-Großplanetarium in Berlin and the Munich Observatory. We will be showing the cult classic THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN (1971) by Robert Wise, which was nominated for two Oscars. After the screening, we will discuss with scientific experts whether the content of the film is more “science” or “fiction”.

About the movie: The US government is feverishly researching the causes of a mass extinction in a small town in Nevada in a secret underground laboratory. A deadly dust of extraterrestrial origin has reached Earth and is beginning to mutate. This first film adaptation of a bestseller by Michael Crichton was a cinematic milestone in its day and is still great cinema.

PÁRVULOS is a mix between a haunting, gory horror film and a gripping story about being a family. Mexican director Isaac Ezban (THE SIMILARS, EVIL EYE) takes a creative approach to the virus catastrophe theme: From the atmospheric colour palette to the stirring soundtrack and the particularly effective and disgusting make-up effects of the infected. Ezban breathes real life into them with humour and heart, without it seeming silly. What is for sure not easy to achieve.

Spectacular underwater scenery, radical fight scenes (even by today's standards!) and outstanding acting performances got this legendary mixture of Japanese softporn and revenge drama numerous awards in 1985. After that, the film disappeared and was never seen outside of Japan. The negatives were found again in 2021 and have now been restored. A unique work, now, on German screens for the first time!
